Life in a Roman Town

Today we have been learning about life in a Roman town. The children made these bulla from fabric. The Romans would have worn these little bags as amulets with a good luck message inside. We made ours from a circle of fabric gathered up with running stitch. Poor Romans would have used fabric too whilst the rich had amulets made of precious metal.

We learnt about the layout of Roman settlements and the types of buildings they would contain. We compared this with modern cities and the children designed their own ideal modern town.

We also used cardboard boxes and lots of glue-gun to make this Roman villa model.
