Just Hanging Out

Today we just chilled out. We spent the morning playing a game of "Risk", whilst this afternoon we painted and used construction kits.

Dwellings In Perspective

Today we continued on with our "dwellings" scrapbook challenge. This week we used 1 point perspective to draw these houses. Afterwards we painted them with watercolours.

Home-school Camp 2013

We joined 3 other home-school families for another year camping at Umina Beach. Here are some pictures of us enjoying the camp-site and adjacent beach.

Mums' teepee

As well as hanging out at the camp pool, beach, jumping pillow and playground we also headed out onto Brisbane Waters in boats from Andersons Boatshed. The kids tried a bit of fishing but didn't catch anything. We also took in the pelican feeding at Woy Woy.

Camden Show 2013

Lawnmower racing

Today we attended the annual Camden Show. As well as being a great day out,  it ticked lots of boxes education wise. We learnt about loads of things from wool production to water salinity, composting to emergency services, reptiles to pasta making, farming, cooking damper and loads more.

Here the children are learning about water salinity (and also about gas extraction, energy saving and geology)

Finished damper and it tasted yummy

Pegasus sand sculpture

Wool from different sheep breeds

Spot the scarecrows

Different ways of processing corn

Pasta making (we also saw how wheat is made into flour)

R was fascinated with this wormy compost, especially with the creatures inside and the worms eggs

How to spin wool

We used microscopes for looking at worms and other creatures

Dino Diaramas

After studying dinosaurs for a few weeks the children chose their favourite dinosaur and constructed a diorama style museum display. We used a cardboard box, construction paper and plastic dinosaurs.

Emergency

Today we joined some friends from Home Education Penrith for an emergency services day. The children got to meet the fire-fighters, paramedics, police and St John's Ambulance personnel. The children got to see the emergency vehicles and stretcher, spray the hoses, dress up in uniform and learn some first aid.

It was a very hard day for the mums as you can see!
