Black Swan Prize for Portraiture

This week we went along to the Art Gallery of Western Australia for the Black Swan Prize for Portraiture. The children chose their favourite paintings and drew their own versions on location in the gallery.

Tutankhamen

This week we went to the Tutankhamen exhibition at Perth exhibition centre. Even though the objects on display are replicas the exhibition is still very enjoyable and we spent over 2 hours inside. There are reconstructions of the tomb, films, an audio guide and lots and lots of objects. Here are some of our favourite exhibits.

The tomb chamber and treasury were reconstructed just as they were found by Howard Carter.

The tomb chamber itself was covered in gold decoration

We saw how the mummy was packed into several outer boxes and mummy shaped caskets.

Tutankhamen's organs were buried with him in the canopic jars. 2 baby children were mummified alongside the king.

Many treasures and other items needed for the afterlife were also placed in the tomb.
