Science of Forces and Energy

Today we have been working on simple energy transfer machines with Mystery Science. The kids loved it and will keep expanding their machines tomorrow. Here's a couple of slow motion videos showing how the machines worked.

Roller-Coaster Science

Today we were experimenting with forces using this roller-coaster experiment from Mystery Science. The lessons are always fun and informative and you can often subscribe for a year for free.

Foster #9

This is Tiki our 9th foster cat from Cat Haven. She's very timid so I could only get this picture with a zoom lens. The shelter is overflowing with cats as we are now in kitten season. Adults are free to adopt right now so get yourself down there!

Maritime History

We recently popped down to Fremantle to see the Pompeii exhibition at the Maritime Museum and to visit the Shipwrecks Museum. The children learnt loads about how clues from the past fit together to give us the story of the time.

Megamouth!!!

The wreck of the Batavia was very impressive, the huge piece on display is just one small section of the ship.

We also passed the Round House where we saw some amazing street art and a couple of convicts.

Cooking Up a Storm - Wanneroo Show

This year the children entered some cakes and biscuits into Wanneroo show. L took 1st Prize for the afternoon tea-tray and R took 3rd.

L also won best exhibit in class for photography, 1st and 3rd for photographs and 1st for miniature novelty garden.

November Hols #3 - Walpole Wilderness

After our Bali trip we tried to work off the excess with a camping trip to the Pemberton and Walpole areas of South-West WA. We took many beach and forest walks, mountain hikes and 4 wheel drives. The area is famous for the massive Karri, Marri and Tingle trees.

There are sereral huge trees in the area that were used in the past as fire lookouts. You can climb up on the widely spaced rungs. We didn't get very high.

There were flies everywhere, R wears an essential piece of hiking kit.

We passed by the Sawpit sculptures.

We took the valley of the Giants tree Top Walkway.

There was once a car parked in the base of a giant tingle tree. It has now blown down but this cardboard cut-out remains.
