Narellan Heritage Walk

This week we are back to our local studies unit. First we took the Narellan Heritage Walk around town to discover what old buildings still remain. You can get a copy of the walking tour brochure at the tourist information centre or download it here.

First stop was the graveyard where we did some data collection from the headstones. Later we'll use this to construct graphs and charts.

Then we took the walking tour past the church and the old church hall which was also used as a school. Within the grounds we discovered some old farming machinery.

The tour took us on past the dilapidated milk depot and cake biz shop which was previously a butchers. For some reason they also have an old railway carriage out the back. On we went past the Narellan Hotel and the Burton Arms Inn (now an estate agents). I encouraged the children to look for clues as to the buildings age and previous use. The leaflet gave us more information. The oldest building we found was from 1839, pretty old in Australian terms.

Of course we needed to try out the old Camden Valley Inn for lunch - all in the name of history of course!
