The most challenging part was cutting open the coconut! Below you can see how an engineer does it.
Once we finally got the coconut into 2 halves we scooped out the flesh (and ate some of it) and then fixed a hanging string inside. Next the children mixed the bird seed with melted vegetable shortening and then scooped the mixture into the coconut shells.
We left the filled coconuts in the fridge until they were set and then hung them up outside for the birds.
We have placed the coconuts on the fence right next to our neighbours bird table so hopefully the birds will find them tomorrow.
