Perth Royal Show 2016

Last weekend we went to Perth Royal Show. We managed to avoid the overpriced rides and showbags and concentrated on the free stuff instead. The children attended a kids cooking workshop where they made healthy muffins and snack balls. We found out how to become a police officer (above). The children rolled oats and ground wheat to make flour and made fresh pasta from dough.

We found out about lots of crops and farm animals along with sustainable gardening and geology of WA.

There was time for pretend shopping, climbing and the obstacle course.

We visited the heritage displays and the vintage machinery. The cat tent was popular as were the animal  petting pavilions. We also enjoyed the art and photography displays and live music.

We watched the grand parade, motorbike stunt team and fireworks.

11 hours later we were exhausted and bloated from the free tastings. Time to go home and we hadn't even seen everything!

Piano Concert

Last weekend the children were in a mini concert at their music school. They got up to perform so quickly that I didn't have time to focus the video. Just shut your eyes and enjoy the audio instead!

Pacifica Gods

Today we went along to Casula Powerhouse for the Pacifica Gods Festival and exhibition. We got to see some traditional Pacific Island's dance and music performances along with the Pacifica Gods exhibition. We also tried Tongan Pig Spit Roast.

The children took a clay workshop where they created Pacific Islands style masks. I'll show you photos of that when we get them out of the kiln.

Fiesta

We are just about to start a unit study on Mexico and the Aztecs. This weekend Sydney held its annual Fiesta of Latin American music, dance, sports and crafts so of course we went along. The children got to hear lots of live music, see traditional and modern dances, football and Mexican wrestling.

WOW Festival

Today we attended the Way Out West children's arts festival at Casula Powerhouse. This festival is on every year and is totally free! The children attended a range of workshops and shows including story telling, origami, music made with toys, comedy show, arts and crafts and Egyptian drumming. We also took in the sock puppet exhibition.
