We have spent lots of time recently playing this great game Settlers Of Catan which the children got for New Year. The game is a mix of strategy and luck. Its similar to Risk in that you have to build an empire but it only takes around an hour and a half to play. Each turn your settlements may generate resources such as wheat, wool, lumber, brick and ore. When you have enough resources you can build more roads and settlements which in turn will bring you in more resources. You need lots of settlements to win the game. Its supposed to be for ages 10 and up but the children have got the hang of the rules pretty quickly and L (age 5) has beaten me on occasion! Don't worry I don't give the children an easy time! There are several expansion sets available which we hope to purchase soon.
