Funky Junk Music

Today we joined our friends from Home Education Penrith for a music workshop. The children made their own junk instruments and then we had a show from junk musician Mic Conway. The show was called "Rubbish" and had a recycling message along with music played on junk instruments, juggling and magic tricks.

The children are having keyboard lessons at Dynamic Rhythms Music Centre. L has just started and R has been playing for a while. They have some fantastic teachers and a great program.

Book Project - Front Cover

Today we finally completed our books. The children made these front covers using a chipboard plane cut-out and acrylic paints. We used sticks to decorate the cover with Aboriginal style art.

Art Journals

Today we joined our friends for a class led by fellow home-educator and artist Mandy. Check out her blog "Eight is Enough".

We worked with markers and watercolours to make our first journal page. The children concentrated really well and produced these lovely pages.

Siege!

Today we have been learning about ancient Assyria.  The children made a siege tower from Mega-Blocks and then smashed a city wall down with it - just like the Assyrians.

This week in maths R has been working on graphs and surveys. Here he is on my balcony counting the cars that pass the house.

I asked R to interpret the graph which he did well, even telling me that white cars are most popular because they reflect the most heat and keep the people inside cool in the Australian sun.

Book Project - Inside Pages

We have spent many weeks working on our book projects which document our trip to England for a wedding. You can read the first post about the map pages here.

Today we finally finished the last of our inside pages. Now we just have to decorate the cover and we're done.
