Penguin and Seal Islands

We took a day trip over to Penguin Island in the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. On the island itself we watched the orphaned penguins being fed. The wild penguins are nested all over the island but they are generally out fishing during the day. We took the boardwalk around the island where we saw plenty of wildlife including gulls, terns, pelicans, osprey, sea eagles, octopus, jellyfish, a king skink and shoals of fish.

We took the 45 minute cruise out into the marine park passing Seal island. We were lucky enough to spot a pod of wild dolphins herding a shoal of fish into the shallows.

Mundaring Weir

This weekend we visited Mundaring Weir and No. 1 Pumping Station. The weir is actually a water catchment dam (an Australian dam being a pond?????). We took a short bushwalk to get to the viewpoint overlooking the lake and dam.

At the pump house we found the old steam pumps which have now been replaced by electricity. The children had a go at pumping the water along the model of the World's longest water pipe.

Cats Galore

Not strictly home-school related but cute nonetheless; our foster kittens are growing and becoming mode adventurous.
