Beautiful Bile

Today we tried another experiment from Mr. Q. In this experiment we were simulating the action of bile breaking down fats in the body. Our fat was represented by full fat milk. We put a few drops of food colouring in each corner (this allows you to see the milk moving). We added small amounts of washing up liquid (representing bile) with a cotton bud. We did not stir or agitate the milk. As the detergent tried to break down and disperse the fats in the milk it produced a swirling effect which we could see as the food colours moved around by themselves.

As soon as the soap (bile) is added the fats begin to disperse and the colour moves with them
